Norse god Tyr
In Norse mythology, Tyr is one of the Æsir, the gods, and he is especially associated with battle and war. He is extremely brave and very wise, and he is best known for being courageous enough to place his arm in the jaws of the wolf Fenrir, as a condition for chaining the wolf to the mountain with a magical chain forged by the dwarves. The wolf realizes he is being tricked, but the chain is fastened, even though Tyr is bitten in his right hand. In Norwegian, Tuesday – tirsdag, comes from old Tys dag (=Tyr’s day).
